Templeton 10mile & Marathon

posted 2 Nov 2014, 14:31 by John Redding   [ updated 2 Nov 2014, 14:31 ]

Just 4 athletes made the trip to Dundee for this hilly (and usually windy) road race. This race provides a challenge not to be underestimated with a course profile that would not look out of place in the summer hill racing series.

Some good individual and team performances and a good spread of cake after made for a productive morning. John Redding was first home in 62:14 for 8th place overall. Angus Gaille then led the LAC train home with the gold striped athletes taking places 29th, 30th and 31st (Scott Hyslop, 69:22; Malcolm Hughes, 69:43).

With a close grouping of finishers, LAC took the silver in the team prize.

Well done to all on a good mornings work

Earlier in October, Malcolm Hughes and Doug Robertson flew to Amsterdam for their annual marathon. both put in sterling performances (3:14:49 and 3:26:13 respectively) to add to their standings in the club championship league tables. Other marathon performances have now been included.

results below now include for templeton and the marathon event (I don't believe that there are any more marathons this month)

Club championship current standings after 11 events (top 5)

Female                                                                                 Male

So as you can see it really is close at the top, particularly with the handicap series with only 1 more event to go. you have 4 more attempts at the falkirk parkrun. With Jill and Alison neck and neck i 3rd and only 1 point separating Scott and Gerry at the top it looks like its all to play for. Angus has also pulled himself up into joint 3rd place and is also in with a shout at the handicap series.

Parkrun scores and therefore official final results will be announced and the club christmas dinner and prize giving on saturday 13th December.

Great Scottish Run

posted 12 Oct 2014, 11:23 by John Redding   [ updated 12 Oct 2014, 12:06 ]

On another great day for a road race, Glasgow was host to circa 30k people in the 10k and half marathon events. with a new route this year, the runners would face new challenges. Earlier in the 10k, David Marshall did himself and the LAC vest proud with his 30th place (out of more than 10,000 runners) with a massive pb of 36:17. Then on to the Half marathon event. With some household names involved, including the great Gabrselassie and Edna Kiplogat, the race was assured of a spectacle. However, whilst the great Haille was having a difficult day, pulling up just after the 3 mile mark, LAC runners put in some top performances.

First home for the club was John Redding in 1:20:50 followed closely by an inform Scott Hyslop who just keeps getting better and better with his 1:26:38. John Smith also made it across the line under the 90 minute mark (1:28:31), with Kenny Leamy (1:30:29) just missing out. Some great performances too from Michal Sroka, Brian Couper, Darren Dick, Bryan Grome and Darren Robertson

Four ladies for LAC, with Sarah Crewes first home in 1:48:09 and Alison Marshall bringing a 2nd PB home to the Marshall household with 1:50:15, Nadine McAlpine in 1:59:44 and Jennifer home in 2:09:15

We now have a new leader in the mens event as John Redding takes the summit for the first time with David and Scott hot on his heals. A very interesting climax in the handicap event as Scott continues to improve and taking the full 100 points on offer.

Another tight affair in the ladies event with 2 athletes on 396points in the handicap event.

So with the marathon and Falkirk parkrun open until the end of November, will there be a flurry of activity in calendar park in these last few weeks? And who is in for Templeton? Scott Hyslop is, but is Gerry? It's hotting up with only 3 events to go.

Stirling 10k

posted 16 Sep 2014, 14:10 by John Redding   [ updated 16 Sep 2014, 14:10 ]

On a perfect day for running, calm and cool, the national 10k championships took place in Stirling. This race always attracts the top runners from all over Scotland. This years race was no different with the winning time 30 minutes dead. LAC had a notable turnout and some cracking performances. First sub 40 minutes for Kenny Leamy and Scott Hyslop who have worked hard over the summer. Great age category placings for Angus Gallie (9th), Graham Burrows (5th) and Jill Horsburgh (9th).

PB's for David Marshall, Alison Marshall, Shirley Hyslop and Paul Dudchenko rounded up a great day for the club.

These results make interesting reading for the club championships.

LAC 2014 Club Championships 1 Mile Race

posted 8 Aug 2014, 13:08 by John Redding   [ updated 8 Aug 2014, 13:08 ]

This year’s race was held on the track at Livingston and provided a fitting venue for some great performances.  With LAC athletes in amongst some of Lothian Running Clubs members, there was some great strength in depth.

The first heat saw Charly, David, Scott, Angus, John and Gerry go head to head and it turned out to be a very close race with all 5 athletes sprinting across the white chalk in a mad 15 second window. Charly led the LAC pack and built on her lead impressively to be first home in 5:26. The rest of the boys were involved in a frantic finish that saw, in order, David, John, Angus, Gerry and Scott all finish with only 7 seconds separating 2nd and 6th.

After a minute to clear the athletes with their hands on knees catching breath, the 2nd heat quickly got on its way. Graham, Hilary and Darren paced themselves well going into the final 100m. The final placings looked all but secured until out of nowhere, Darren produced one of his now legendary sprint finishes to catch and beat Hilary by only a few 10ths of a second. Only Darren knows where he got that final burst of energy from.

Final results

  1. 1.       Charly Fortune                  5:26.4
  2. 2.       David Marshall                  5:34.0

Dechmont and the Blackest of Rocks

posted 17 Jun 2014, 13:50 by John Redding   [ updated 17 Jun 2014, 14:03 ]

Two club championship races in quick succession saw athletes get their shoes muddy on the hills of Dechmont Law and then wash then clean in the waters off the coast of fife at Black Rock. A good turnout for both races saw the black, gold and blue of LAC with some fine performances. With some athletes now having already done the 5 qualifying races (and some more... Darren), the competition is hotting up at the top of the leaderboard to fine tune the next performances over the coming months for extra points.

Cumulative club championships after 6 events:

Paul Dudchenko              481pts                            Hilary Stocks                              498pts
Darren Dick                     476pts                            Jennifer Newton                           394pts
David Marshall                 391pts                            Jill Horsburgh                                296

Paul Dudchenko         487pts                                  Hilary Stocks                               498pts
Darren Dick                484pts                                  Jennifer Newton                            396pts
Gerry McArdle            394pts                                  Jill Horsburgh                               297pts

Paul and Hilary remain at the top of both leader boards and both have completed 5 races to qualify. There is a bit of a break now to get back into some training for the end of summer/autumn events. The next race will be the club organised 1 mile race which will likely be towards the end of august. The date of this will be announce later

West Lothian 5k Results

posted 31 May 2014, 13:00 by John Redding   [ updated 31 May 2014, 13:00 ]

On to a sunny and calm evening in Livingston for the next round of the club championships. The West Lothian College 5k is a quirky local race and was well attended by Linlithgow vests. Some strong performances saw Charly take the win for the ladies and John a credible 3rd overall. David Marshall and Angus saw to 4 LAC vests in the top 10. The course would be described by Angus as "undulating" which as experience tells us (particularly anyone who has done Templeton 10 and heard the same phrase muttered) means that the race will be hard work. Well done to everyone who took part.

A muddy hill in Stirling was the meeting point for the next round of the club championships. A number of LAC athletes made the evening journey up and down the well know Dumyat hill race. Some doing their first hill race (and perhaps their last!), Jill made her LAC debut looking good in the blue, gold and black stripe and others more seasoned hill runners looking to better previous attempts.

posted 6 Apr 2014, 14:07 by John Redding   [ updated 6 Apr 2014, 14:09 ]

Another windy day at the club championships again brought out a number of LAC athletes with outstanding performances. Winter training has obviously gone well for many and the dreary winter miles are being rewarded with some spring smiles yet again. Whilst some athletes were fine tuning their London Marathon preparations others using the race as a chance to get the legs shifting.
