Linlithgow fielded what is probably a record number of athletes in a cross country in the clubs recent history today. The club started on a high when Harry Pegg came in fourth in the under 11s competition, just yards off first place.
Three athletes, Shaun Lamb, Clare Fischbacher and Sarah Begarnie were well placed in the under 13s competition. All three were competing in their first every club-level cross country event and did brilliantly. Clare and Sarah ran a very intelligent race, pacing themselves from the word go. Shaun went off strongly but was unfortunate in losing his shoe in the woods!
Andrew and Duncan did very well in the tough 3.5km under 15s event. Andrew managed to finish well in spite of racing the Falkirk Park run the day before!
Everyone did their best and I was really proud of them. They told me that the standard was much higher than the West Lothian schools competition - there is no doubt that it is - but we challenge ourselves to improve. Everyone can hold their heads up high. Well done to each and all.
We also fielded seven senior athletes. Audrey Millar, who has just moved into Linlithgow and has barely unpacked her boxes, had a very respectable run in the 6.4km senior womens event - her first ever cross country. She seems well up for the prospect of more - we need to find her some more team mates!
We had a full senior mens team of six, finish order over the 9.6km course was John Redding, Angus Gallie, Matt Richardson (me), Paul Dudchenko, Graham Burrows and Graeme Lawson. In fielding a full team yet again the Linlithgow AC senior men will not incur penalties and now are likely to be higher than in any year in the last 25. We had Lothian and Livingston folk commenting how good it was to see so many of us, juniors and seniors. Cross Country provides a rare opportunity for junior and senior clubs to get together which can only be a good thing.
Photos of Harry and the senior mens and womens teams are attached. Unfortunately Clare and Sarah wouldn't let me take a photo of them afterwards as they looked like they'd run a hard race! All photos are post-race in case you think I'm not looking quite as attractive as normal!
By the way I have a very nice Linlithgow Primary School water bottle - let me know if it is yours.
Full results should be available tomorrow evening at http://www.eastleague.co.uk/
