Another busy week of running for Linlithgow Athletic Club began last Wednesday at the Dumyat Hill Race, one of the most popular midweek hill races in the calendar with a field of 254 runners. Paul Dudchenko was first for LAC (85th in 45:52) narrowly beating Dave Mason (91st, 46:10). Scott Hyslop (116th, 48:38) and Graeme Lawson (188th, 55:36) followed with Dawn Cameron, in her first hill race, finishing 224th in an admirable time of 1:01:15.
One hill race in a week was not enough for Dave and Scott who also took on the Ben Lomond Hill Race on Saturday. Lisa Gamble completed the LAC trio in the line-up. At 7.5 miles and 3192 feet it's a tough race in any conditions but strong winds combined with heavy rain led to some runners being blown off their feet whilst navigating the rocky ridge towards the summit. An impressive performance therefore by Lisa making her 3rd Female in a time of 1:33:01. Dave was 44th overall in 1:30:27 with Scott 61st in 1:36:56.
Also on Saturday, just a few miles down the road, another 3 LAC athletes chose to run a far flatter race in the Loch Leven Half Marathon. Speed-girl Charly Fortune (116th, 1:40:01) was providing a bit pacing support for the boys, running the last mile with Gerry McArdle to help him finish in 1:40:15 for 122nd place and a new PB. Mark Pullan was 234th in 1:49:20.
Sunday was a ladies only day with the Bupa Great Women’s 10k in Glasgow. This event produces one of the largest 10k fields in Scotland and this year amongst the 5.895 runners were 3 LAC females. Taking the plaudits as first lady of Linlithgow was Lynne McGill who finished in 41:58 for 39th place overall. Frances Wood (145th, 46:19) and Louisa Cockburn (183rd, 47:19) were also well placed.
Edinburgh – Darren Dick (106th, 23:45)
Falkirk - Andrew Fischbacher (8th, 18:45); Malcolm Hughes (18th; 20:40); Eoin Richardson (75th, 25:58 PB); Matt Richardson (76th, 25:59)
