Popping along to your local parkrun on a Saturday morning is something that many runners enjoy. Whether you are fast, not so fast or just starting out on your running journey, you will meet friendly like-minded people and start your weekend with a 5k run. For some Linlithgow AC members, after many runs at Falkirk and Edinburgh, a new challenge was suggested. There are currently 14 Scottish parkruns (with more due to start later this year), and earlier this year Hilary Stocks was one of the folk who decided to run them all. After many weeks of planning, driving and running, the mission was completed at Perth parkrun on Saturday. Hilary was pleased to finish 27th (4th F) in 21:39, a little slower than Charlotte Fortune who finished 9th (1st F) with a new course PB of 19:04. Meanwhile at Falkirk parkrun, Andrew Fischbacher was 17th in 19:22 and Malcolm Hughes was 36th in 20:43.
For Scott Hyslop, his summer challenge is the Garmorn Dam Duathlon series, held over 3 events with the final race due on 26 August. Each event comprises a 3.4km run, a 10.7 mountain bike section and finally a 1.7km run, all on trails rather than road. The race on Tuesday 22 July was a closely fought race, with lots of changing of position during the bike section. Scott overtook a number of people in the final run section to finish 6th overall, and this puts him in 3rd place for the series to date.
